The second character will be the lead character from the comics, Veronica. She will be a police officer with a very dark past.
The three new characters are not all-new additions to the game as I mentioned earlier, but are instead new faces and will be appearing alongside some familiar faces from the universe. The game’s plot line will revolve around their adventures along the way, but they will have little to no direct involvement as they have no special powers or powers not normally seen in the DCU.
DC Universe Online will focus in much the same way as the DC Universe movies are, with the main focus with this iteration being on the characters, along with more quests and missions similar to other MMOs, but with more of an emphasis on the lore of the universe.

“The game will use the same engine so we’re not moving any of the things from DC: Rebirth to DC Universe Online, but we’re integrating things from every other game that we’ve had a chance to experience and work, so that we feel really comfortable with that platform. So there will be a bunch of the same things: a lot of the same things we have in DC games, but some of the new ones that we haven’t had an opportunity to play before.”
As you probably know, DC Universe Online wasn’t a huge success when it finally launched in 2013, and a lot of people were upset, as the developer had promised an “ongoing and vibrant DC TV universe, freeform player-driven story,” which turned out to be very much a fiction. DC TV is now cancelled, but that didn’t stop the hype train from continuing, with a live-action feature as recently as December 2017.
DC Universe Online will be a free-to-play game with microtransactions, rather like its predecessor, but I would argue that the latter game was a great free-to-play alternative to the former, as it enabled free-to-play players to play for free, while those who purchased access to DC TV had to pay for everything else. I am very glad there will be some options like that in DC Universe Online, though.
